Today I uploaded a video of the small DC motor I have been working on. This motor has a photo transistor embedded in the rear section, an LED is turned on, the light will hit the photo transistor through a small diameter hole in the rotar timer ( a piece of delrin 1 1/4 dia. with a 1/4" hole drilled through) When the photo transistor is turned on it will open the gate in the mosfet which will send power to the small coil pushing and pulling the magnet 180 degrees. (I have also placed 2 photo transistors and LED's in this motor as I am trying to figure out the best way to use one coil, but reverse polarity) The motor is a little noisy as the shaft is spinning so fast, the bearings heat up and are a little loose because I made the housing out of corian. I plan to get a tachometer later so I know the rpm's. To see this motor click here.
I have also made a generator out of delrin that has 66 3/4" diameter magnets. The generator works great so when I get time I will be posting a video of it on YouTube. Well back to tinkering.

Tinkering With Mike
My name is Mike. I make my living woodworking. In my spare time I like to tinker with different ways of making energy affordable. The most successful experimenting I have done is with using waste vegetable oil as a fuel source. I have now been heating my home with waste vegetable oil for the last two years.
I do this using a diesel engine, powered by vegetable oil, to turn a generator (which I made from a 10hp. 3phase motor). I do not convert the oil I collect into bio-diesel as that would cost more than a dollar a gallon. I heat the oil up, start the engine on diesel fuel, and after about 10 minutes, switch over to the waste vegetable oil. Even on the coldest days, my home is warm and I am using an energy source that would otherwise be thrown away. You can view my video of this here
Plans are also available for this generator by clicking the Buy it Now button. Plans will be emailed to you in a PDF file.
I have other projects that I am working on as well. I am currently in the process of making a small battery powered motor using a light and a photo resistor for communtator and mosfets for switching. I have already made the motor and it seems to run well. I will be posting a video of this motor on YouTube soon.
